Together with the best international genetic companies

Gepork has always worked with global leading companies in genetics to offer the best value to all the clients.

In the early 80s, Gepork started to import boars from Germany together with the well-known company German Pietrain in order to offer the best terminal lines. At that point, Gepork had 14 boars; now we manage over 400 of them.

Likewise, in 2008, Gepork reached an agreement with the prestigious Irish genetics company Hermitage to incorporate their genetics to the reproductive nucleus. Then reproductive animals F1 and Landrance and Largewhite in purity and maternal doses were distributed across Spain. In 2016, after the purchase of Hermitage by PIC, Gepork opened new opportunities with this prestigious genetics company.

Crossbreeding tree

Large White

The maternal line PIC-Hermitage Large White has been developed since 1958, which adds up over 50 years of exhaustive selection and testing for the reproductive performance traits. The underlying Hermitage Maternal Line Breeding Programmes and BLUP selection indices have been specifically formulated to ensure our Large White lines are produced with the genetic potential to maximize the number of pigs born and reared in a commercial environment.

PIC-Hermitage has recently expanded the high health Large White animals  nucleus and now we maintain over 4,500 GGP/GP sows across the globe.

Landrace

The maternal line PIC-Hermitage Landrace has been developed since 1958, which adds up over 50 years of exhaustive selection and testing for the reproductive performance traits. The underlying Hermitage Maternal Line Breeding Programmes and BLUP selection indices have been specifically formulated to ensure our Landrace lines are produced with the genetic potential to maximize the number of pigs born and reared in a commercial environment.

PIC-Hermitage has recently expanded the high health Landrace animals  nucleus and now we maintain over 10,000 GGP/GP sows across the globe.

F1

Gepork offers our clients F1 gilts resulting from crossing a selection of the best Landrace PIC-Hermitage sows, a line in continuous development since 1958, with a selection of the best Large White PIC-Hermitage boars. This gilt, together with the terminal Pietrain boar that Gepork offers, produces piglets with the following characteristics:

  • Higher growth
  • Higher conversion index
  • High % of lean meat
  • Halothane negative
  • Hyperprolific

We also sell boars resulting from this crossing.

Duroc

Genètica Duroc - Gepork

Lately, the improvements in genetics have allowed to produce Duroc sires having excellent parameters of fat infiltration in loin and ham and excellent meat quality. Moreover, they present a satisfactory canal configuration and great performance.

At the same time, they are robust, high conformation animals, which have a long lifespan and an excellent libido. This traits make them optimum animals for a crossing with the Iberian pig, showing excellent results in productivity and meat quality. Gepork offers Duroc boars with these characteristics both in its insemination centre, sold as semen doses, and by purchasing boars.

Pietrain

Genètica Pietrain - Gepork

Gepork turns 39 years selecting the best German Pietrain alongside SHZ association. During this time, Gepork has worked towards the genetic development of the Pietrain breed. On occasions, Gepork has become genetic supplier of the association itself.

In order to supply the best boars to our clients, Gepork conducts an exhaustive selection of each of the animals.

Our tests and studies in real production farms prove that the crossing Pietrain Gepork with Hermitage maternal lines is the perfect combination. Our achievements:

Producing balanced animals
Excellent results in the slaughterhouse
