Artificial insemination was introduced in Spain in 1979 by Gepork, a pioneering genetic company in the sector. Gepork offers boars and semen doses of the highest quality and works with the most in-demand breeds: Pietrain, Landrace, Large White, and Duroc.

The Gepork Group has a Technology Center and pig production farms that follow strict biosecurity measures. Its own resources, together with continuous collaboration with independent research centers such as IRTA and UAB, make it possible to carry out extensive work in Research and Innovation. One example of this work is performance testing, which currently allows the evaluation of how 200 boars transmit their genetic value to their offspring.

PACKAGING

The Gepork Artificial Insemination Center offers two types of semen dose packaging: tubes and blisters. Both formats are prepared for immediate use in insemination. Each dose has a volume of 90 ml and a total concentration of 3.0 × 10⁹ sperm cells. ,For these doses, semen quality specifications (motility and total abnormal forms) are tailored to the specific type of insemination for which they are intended. Gepork also offers post-cervical doses, designed for single insemination, with a volume of 45 ml and a total concentration of 1.5 × 10⁹ viable sperm cells per dose.

STORAGE

Depending on the characteristics of the doses and the required storage duration, two types of specific extenders are used to ensure maximum product quality: medium-term and long-term. The medium-term extender is designed to maintain optimal sperm conditions for up to 3 days. The long-term extender preserves doses for up to 7 days with maximum quality assurance. In addition, Gepork delivers semen doses at a temperature between 17°C and 19°C to guarantee optimal preservation and product quality.

FREEZING

The freezing of semen doses allows for safe and reliable transport anywhere in the world. The process uses 0.5 ml straws containing 500 million viable sperm cells. Semen is pre-evaluated by performing a trial freezing of a boar ejaculate, which is then thawed to assess sperm viability and motility.
